Tirana Protest Enters Day 40 as Demonstrators Demand Edi Rama's Resignation

Anti-government protests in Albania's capital entered their 40th consecutive day on Thursday, as activists and citizens once again gathered in central Tirana to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government.

A large crowd of anti-government protesters filling a wide street in Tirana, holding up multiple national flags of Albania and a large white banner with red and black lettering that reads "EDI RAMA, DORËHIQU!".
Thousands of demonstrators carry Albanian national flags and a banner reading "Edi Rama, resign!" in Tirana as public mobilization reaches its 40th consecutive day, demanding a complete political transition.
As on previous evenings, demonstrators assembled around 7:30 p.m. in Skanderbeg Square, where they chanted slogans including "Your time is over," "A New Albania," "Edi Rama, traitor, don't bargain with Albania," "Edi Rama, face the people—they are coming," "Rama, resign," and "Albania demands a revolution."

Following the gathering in Skanderbeg Square, protesters marched along Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard toward the Prime Minister's Office, where they continued the demonstration with speeches and chants directed against the government.

The protesters' primary demand remains unchanged: the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the current government. Organizers say the demonstrations will continue until meaningful political change is achieved.

Reaching the 40-day mark highlights the persistence of one of Albania's longest-running recent protest movements. Participants argue that widespread public frustration over governance, corruption, and the country's economic challenges continues to fuel the demonstrations, while political observers are closely watching whether the sustained protests will have a tangible impact on Albania's political landscape.
