Besfort Gjoklaj Saves 67-Year-Old Shkodran Man Bardhyl Xhahysa After Heart Attack at Velipoja Beach

A quick and professional intervention by lifeguard Besfort Gjoklaj saved the life of a 67-year-old man from Shkodra after he suffered a medical emergency while swimming in Velipoja.

 
The incident happened at the beach of Grand Europa Resort, where the elderly man, identified as Bardhyl Xhahysa from Shkodra, reportedly suffered a heart attack shortly after entering the water and lost his pulse for several seconds.

Lifeguard Gjoklaj immediately reacted, pulling the man safely to shore and providing first aid. Thanks to his prompt response and proper intervention, the 67-year-old regained consciousness and survived the critical moment.

According to reports, the man had swallowed a considerable amount of water before receiving emergency assistance.

Shortly after the lifeguard’s intervention, an ambulance from the Velipoja Health Center arrived and continued providing medical care. The injured man was later transported to the Regional Hospital of Shkodra, where he remains under doctors’ supervision.

The case highlights once again the vital role of trained lifeguards at beaches, as immediate action during life-threatening situations can make the difference between life and death.

Despite the growing number of visitors along Albania’s coastline during the summer season, the lack of qualified lifeguards remains a concern in many beach areas. In this case, Besfort Gjoklaj’s vigilance and professionalism helped save a life during a critical emergency.
