Dritan Goxhaj on Alleged Plots to Physically Eliminate Edi Rama and Albanian Leaders for Political Rotation

A resurfaced video featuring Dritan Goxhaj has triggered strong controversy in Albania after comments in which he suggested that political rotation in the country could, in theory, be achieved through violence.

In the footage, originally broadcast during a televised discussion, Goxhaj refers to historical examples and states that “political change can also come through the bullet,” framing his argument within comparisons to past revolutionary acts.

According to the published report, he argued that while such an act may be “easy to carry out,” it would require broader political backing to have any real effect on systemic change.

The statement has been widely interpreted as a reference to the idea that eliminating political leaders could trigger institutional change, a claim that immediately generated backlash in political circles and media commentary.

Government representatives and public figures reacted strongly, with critics arguing that such rhetoric crosses the line into the normalization of political violence. The discussion intensified after the video circulated again on social media platforms, reigniting debate over the tone of political discourse in Albania.

Supporters and critics of Goxhaj have since clashed online, with interpretations ranging from historical metaphor to direct incitement, reflecting the already polarized environment in Albanian political debate.
The controversy also highlights broader tensions in the country’s political landscape, where radical rhetoric—especially when linked to systemic dissatisfaction—often leads to public disputes between governing institutions, opposition voices, and activist figures.

At the center of the discussion remains the question of where free speech ends and incitement begins, particularly in a context where political frustration is increasingly expressed in extreme language.
Authorities have not announced any formal legal consequences related to the resurfaced video at the time of writing.
