Albanian Taxi Driver Attacked with a Hammer by African Passenger in Italy Over €80 Fare

An Albanian taxi driver was the victim of a violent attack in northern Italy after a passenger allegedly struck him in the back of the head with a hammer in an attempt to avoid paying for the ride.

The incident occurred in the area of Lodi, where the suspect, a 25-year-old man of African origin according to Italian media reports, is accused of assaulting the driver after they reached their destination. Investigators believe the attack was motivated by the passenger's attempt to evade payment of the €80 taxi fare.

Fortunately, the Albanian driver reacted quickly despite the assault and managed to escape from the vehicle, preventing what could have been a far more serious outcome.

Law enforcement authorities launched an immediate investigation and were able to identify the suspect shortly afterward. Security camera footage from inside the taxi, combined with testimony from a local resident who heard the driver's cries for help and alerted authorities, proved crucial in tracking down the alleged attacker.

The 25-year-old was subsequently arrested and is expected to face judicial proceedings in connection with the violent incident.

The case has attracted attention in Italy due to the brutality of the attack and the role played by surveillance technology and witness cooperation in helping authorities quickly identify and apprehend the suspect.
