Albanian MPs in Serbia Submit Resolution Condemning Serbian War Crimes in Kosovo

Albanian lawmaker Shaip Kamberi, together with Sandžak representatives Ahmedin Škrijelj and Minela Kalender, has formally submitted a resolution to the Serbian Parliament calling for the condemnation of crimes committed in Kosovo during the 1998–1999 war.

According to Kamberi, the resolution represents a direct call for Serbia to confront its past and officially recognize facts established through judgments and findings of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. The document reportedly condemns systematic crimes, killings, deportations, ethnic cleansing, and violence committed against Kosovo Albanian civilians by military, police, and paramilitary structures of the Serbian regime during the conflict. Historical investigations by international institutions documented widespread crimes against civilians during the Kosovo war.

In his public statement, Kamberi said the resolution specifically recalls some of the most documented massacres of the war, including events in Reçak, Mejë, Krushë e Madhe, Krushë e Vogël, Suharekë, Izbicë, and Podujevë. The document also references mass grave sites discovered in locations including Batajnica and Petrovo Selo, cases that have remained central to regional war crimes investigations.

The proposed resolution further calls for the opening of state and military archives, the continuation of investigations into missing persons, and guarantees for victims’ families to obtain truth and justice. International efforts regarding missing persons from the Kosovo conflict continue to remain a major regional issue.

In addition, the text condemns the denial of war crimes and the glorification of convicted war criminals. Kamberi stated that acknowledging the truth should not be seen as punishment for Serbian citizens, but rather as a necessary step toward distancing society from policies and structures responsible for wartime atrocities.

Political observers note that the initiative comes at a sensitive moment for regional reconciliation efforts and could reignite debate inside Serbia over accountability, transitional justice, and relations with Kosovo.
