European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos is expected to arrive in Pristina on May 14, marking her first official visit to Kosovo since taking office in 2024.
According to regional media reports, Kos will travel directly from London and is scheduled to hold three high-level meetings during her stay in Pristina. Her agenda reportedly includes a meeting with acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, followed by talks with caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti. A third meeting is expected to take place with representatives of civil society rather than opposition political parties.
The visit carries strong political significance as it comes just weeks before Kosovo’s snap parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7. European diplomatic sources have confirmed that this will be Kos’s first visit to Kosovo since assuming her role, after a planned March visit was postponed due to the country’s constitutional and political developments.
Kosovo has remained the only Western Balkan country that Commissioner Kos had not yet officially visited during her mandate, making this trip particularly important in the context of Kosovo’s European integration process and Brussels’ engagement with the region. No additional regional visits are currently listed before or after her stay in Pristina, according to reports from European sources.
Political analysts see the timing of the visit as strategically important, as Kosovo prepares for a new electoral process amid institutional tensions and renewed discussions over EU reforms, democratic governance, and regional stability.
