An Albanian from Tetovo, Bekim Ahmedi, is being praised as a hero after risking his life to save neighbors during a dangerous fire in Oslo, Norway.
The incident occurred in a residential building in Oslo, where a fire broke out and quickly filled the stairwell with thick black smoke. According to reports, Ahmedi reacted immediately after hearing screams from nearby residents, rushing to the scene with a fire extinguisher in hand.
Together with another resident, he attempted to contain the flames before emergency services arrived. When initial efforts failed, the two made a risky decision to enter the smoke-filled corridor. Holding their breath, they crawled through the dense smoke in an attempt to reach the source of the fire and prevent it from spreading further.
The conditions inside the building were extremely dangerous, with visibility reduced to near zero and toxic smoke rapidly spreading. Despite the risk, Ahmedi and his neighbor managed to partially control the fire and help prevent a potentially more devastating outcome. Authorities later confirmed that the fire was intense and posed a serious threat to residents, particularly as it affected the main evacuation route.
Following the incident, Ahmedi and others involved were taken to hospital for oxygen treatment after inhaling smoke. In total, several residents required medical attention, though no serious injuries were reported.
Ahmedi’s actions have been widely praised as an example of courage and quick thinking in an emergency. His instinctive response and willingness to act under pressure are credited with helping protect lives and limiting the impact of the fire.
The case has drawn attention both in Norway and among Albanian communities, highlighting the importance of solidarity and immediate action in crisis situations. As investigations continue into the cause of the fire, Ahmedi’s bravery stands out as a powerful reminder of how individual actions can make a critical difference.
