The incident occurred Friday evening in the village of Viron, near Nikla, in the municipality of Fushë-Krujë. According to preliminary investigations, the victim and the suspected perpetrator had been involved in ongoing disputes for nearly two years, primarily over property issues—an issue that continues to fuel tensions in parts of Albania and the wider Balkans.

Authorities believe the shooting happened after Çangu arrived at his parents’ home and parked his vehicle nearby. This reportedly triggered a confrontation with Afmataj, who claimed the car was blocking access. The verbal dispute quickly escalated into a physical clash, during which the suspect allegedly retrieved a hunting shotgun and fatally shot the victim at the scene.

Investigators also revealed a family connection between the two men, as Afmataj is reportedly related by marriage to Çangu’s extended family. Another line of inquiry involves a prior conflict between the suspect and the victim’s sons, again linked to property disputes.

After the shooting, the suspect reportedly contacted police before fleeing the scene. Law enforcement forces have launched extensive search operations, but he remains at large.
