Albanian Worker Dies After Workplace Accident in Castelfiorentino, Italy

The incident occurred on April 27 in the rural area of Mellicciano, where the victim was working on an agricultural farm. According to initial reports, he was crushed by a large portable concrete mixer that suddenly overturned for reasons still under investigation. Emergency teams arrived quickly at the scene in Castelfiorentino, where doctors found the man in critical condition.

He was sedated and intubated on-site before being airlifted by the emergency helicopter “Pegaso” to Careggi University Hospital. Despite intensive medical efforts, the severe trauma and multiple injuries proved fatal, and he passed away on the morning of April 29 after two days in critical condition.

Preliminary findings indicate the worker had been trapped under the heavy machinery before being freed by colleagues and first responders, who initiated life-saving procedures. Authorities, including the Carabinieri and occupational safety officials in Tuscany, have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether workplace safety protocols were properly followed.

The tragic incident comes just hours after World Day for Safety and Health at Work, once again highlighting the ongoing risks faced by workers in high-risk environments.
