A shocking case of attempted theft occurred on Sunday afternoon at Prishtina Mall, one of Kosovo’s largest shopping centers, when a foreign national allegedly tried to walk out of a luxury store with an expensive item. The incident took place inside the “Boss” store, where a handbag worth €269.99 was reportedly taken without authorization.

Mall security personnel quickly intervened, and the Kosovo Police were immediately called to the scene. Upon arrival, officers encountered two Swedish citizens, both believed to be involved in the incident. After questioning, it was determined that only one of them had directly participated in the act.
The main suspect was later identified as Jahn Dahlgren, a 27-year-old Swedish national, who was taken into police custody. Following standard legal procedures, Dahlgren was detained and charged with “Serious Theft” under Kosovo’s criminal code.
The case is currently being investigated under the direction of the on-duty prosecutor, who is also examining whether the suspect may be connected to other similar thefts reported recently in the same shopping center.
Authorities have stated that all evidence, including security camera footage and witness statements, has been collected and submitted for review. The Swedish Embassy in Prishtina has been officially notified of the arrest, as required by international law concerning detained foreign citizens.
Security experts note that this type of theft—targeting high-end fashion and luxury brands—is becoming increasingly common in European shopping malls. Criminals often work in pairs or small groups, using tools to disable electronic tags or conceal stolen items. However, quick coordination between mall staff, security officers, and police remains a key factor in preventing losses.
In this case, thanks to the vigilance of the Boss store employees and the immediate response of Prishtina Mall’s security team, the suspect was caught before managing to exit the building. The police commended the staff for their swift action, which ensured the safety of shoppers and prevented the loss of valuable merchandise.
A spokesperson for Prishtina Mall management stated that the center continues to maintain high security standards, with continuous camera monitoring, trained personnel, and strong cooperation with law enforcement agencies. “Our customers’ safety and trust remain our top priority,” the spokesperson emphasized.
While the investigation continues, the suspect remains in detention, and prosecutors are preparing the official case documentation. If convicted of serious theft, the Swedish national could face a prison sentence or financial penalties, depending on the outcome of the trial.
The incident has sparked renewed discussions in Kosovo about retail crime prevention and cross-border criminal activity, especially in popular shopping hubs that attract large numbers of international visitors.
As Kosovo’s retail sector continues to grow, authorities are expected to tighten surveillance and enhance cooperation between mall security teams and local police to deter future incidents.
