During the meeting, President Begaj praised Hungary’s strong and consistent support for Albania and the Western Balkans on their path to joining the European Union. He emphasized Hungary’s crucial role during its Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2024, when it advanced enlargement talks and strongly advocated for a fair, merit-based EU expansion process.

Both leaders highlighted the importance of deepening political dialogue between the two NATO allies and soon-to-be partners in the European Union. They also underlined that the accession of the Western Balkans to the EU would not only enhance stability in the region but also contribute to greater security within the European Union itself.

On economic cooperation, President Begaj noted the success of Hungarian investments in Albania’s banking, telecommunications, and air transport sectors. He invited Hungarian entrepreneurs to follow the example of these successful companies and bring more capital and expertise to Albania. “Do not hesitate to invest in our country,” Begaj stated, while stressing his commitment to further encourage Hungarian business involvement.

Albania also encouraged Hungary to support the promotion of Albanian products in the Hungarian market, opening new opportunities for trade exchange.

Tourism was another key point in the discussions, with both sides recognizing the significant increase in Hungarian visitors to Albania. In addition, the talks touched on cooperation in justice, agriculture, education, and culture. President Begaj expressed gratitude for the scholarships provided to Albanian students by Hungary.

During his stay in Budapest, President Begaj also honored Albania’s national symbols by laying wreaths at the monuments of national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg and Saint Mother Teresa, a gesture that highlighted Albania’s historic and spiritual heritage.

This visit marked another step in the deepening of Albanian-Hungarian ties, both bilaterally and within the broader European family.
