Albanian Customs has issued an official announcement via social media informing travelers entering the territory of Albania about the goods they are allowed to bring with them for personal use or as gifts without incurring customs duties—provided they comply with the thresholds established by the current customs legislation.
According to the statement, the maximum value of goods eligible for customs exemption is:
-
€300 for travelers entering by land,
-
€430 for those arriving by air or sea,
-
and €150 for travelers under the age of 15.
As part of the duty-free allowances, limited quantities of specific goods such as tobacco and alcoholic beverages are also permitted for personal use.
Allowed Quantities of Tobacco Products:
-
Up to 200 cigarettes,
-
Or 100 cigarillos,
-
Or 50 cigars,
-
Or 250 grams of tobacco.
Allowed Quantities of Alcoholic Beverages:
-
1 liter of alcohol with more than 22% alcohol content,
-
Or 2 liters of alcohol with less than 22% alcohol content,
-
In addition to 2 liters of still wine,
-
And up to 10 liters of beer.
Travelers are also allowed to bring up to 3 kilograms of coffee for personal consumption.
However, travelers under the age of 17 are not eligible for the exemptions related to alcohol and tobacco products.
In cases where travelers exceed the permitted limits, they are required to declare those goods to the customs authorities. For goods not intended for commercial purposes, a simplified declaration procedure is applied.
Customs officers are authorized to inspect passengers’ luggage and goods at any time to ensure compliance with the law and to prevent the illegal entry of goods into Albanian territory.
These measures are part of efforts to ensure fair border management while facilitating the movement of travelers who abide by the rules.
