The Armed Forces of Albania have officially launched a new unit called the Cyber and Communications Command, marking a significant step in modernizing the country’s defense capabilities in response to emerging security threats.
The creation of the new unit was announced today during a formal ceremony attended by Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu. In a Facebook post, Minister Vengu described the event as the culmination of a multi-year effort to strengthen Albania's cybersecurity infrastructure.
"The Cyber Command is the newest addition to the Armed Forces’ structure, responding to new security threats and the growing need to protect our critical infrastructure," wrote Vengu.
"This is the result of years of dedicated work, supported strongly by the United States, and marks the beginning of a new chapter of cooperation, investment, and commitment to building stronger defense capabilities."
Minister Vengu also congratulated General Hamdi Doda, who has been appointed as the first Commander of this newly established unit within the Albanian Armed Forces (FARSH).
The establishment of the Cyber Command underscores Albania’s growing focus on cyber defense, particularly at a time when both governmental and critical infrastructure systems face increasingly sophisticated digital threats. The unit is expected to play a key role in securing communications, defending against cyberattacks, and enhancing military interoperability with NATO allies.
