A new political scene is forming after the results of yesterday's parliamentary elections in Greece, with the deep victory of the ruling party New Democracy surpassing all predictions, even the exit polls, local media say.

The opposition party SYRIZA suffered a heavy defeat, while the third-party PASOK and the Communist Party of Greece experienced growth.

Five Greek parties have secured seats for the upcoming Greek parliament in the first round of elections.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis will meet with the President of Greece today to receive a new order for the formation of a government, which appears to be a technocratic government, to lead the country in the second round of elections, as outlined in the procedure being implemented for the first time in the country.

A law by the SYRIZA government is now resulting in its own goal regarding the form of vote counting and seat allocation.

In the coming days, Prime Minister Mitsotakis is expected to expedite the government formation process and the swearing-in of the interim parliament in order to reach a second round on June 25. If the deadlines exceed what is specified in the Greek constitution, then the second round will take place on July 2.

These announcements are expected to be made by Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself today.

There is a heavy atmosphere within SYRIZA and a general meeting of party leaders today following the catastrophic results. A deep internal reform is required within the Greek opposition of the Progressive Alliance, which failed to convince for a possible governing coalition. This is precisely the first assessment of the deep defeat, the lack of a coalition that would enable the implementation of a secure 4-year governing program with stability and progress.

Despite the handling of the pandemic, the high death toll despite the strictest and longest lockdown in Europe, the most tragic railway accident in the country's history in Tembi with 57 victims, the fires and ecological disasters in Evia, Attica, and throughout Greece, the extraordinary cost that is undermining the family economy every day, the Greek people have voted for another clear mandate for the right-wing conservative party "New Democracy."

In the second round, only the confirmation of this clear mandate is expected.

Regarding Albanian candidates, they should be congratulated for their modest campaigns and support solely from the respective parties' moral support. However, with great courage and sacrifices, they have managed to rank deserving positions compared to many Greek candidates, who undoubtedly enjoy a wider circle of friendly and familial support in the country.

Today, the Albanian community has approximately 10,000 votes, which we consider an emotional achievement, and they will multiply in the future.
