The Albanian part of Corridor 8

The Albanian ports of Durrës and Vlora are expected to play a major role in this framework of investments in Corridor 8 since with the completion of this rail axis, the volumes in these ports can increase by up to 40%, - says a recent study.

The study points out that Corridor 8, as part of the Pan-European Network, will be important for the financing of new facilities (freight and passenger terminals, logistics centers, and warehouses, which are missing in the Albanian part.

In the Albanian part, Corridor 8 will be significantly helped by the investments being made in the new railway line, Durrës - Tirana - Rinas, and a project to activate the existing railway line, Durrës - Lin (Pogradec).

Currently, a distance of 2.8 km of the railway line is missing that could enable Albania to connect with North Macedonia. Further, from North Macedonia, the railway passes to Sofia and ends in Plovdiv, branching off to the ports of Burgas and Varna.
