Tirana nurse sentenced after stealing money of COVID-19 dead patient

 The court of Tirana ended with a single session the trial against a nurse of the Infectious Diseases Hospital in QSUT, accused of stealing the money of a patient who died from COVID-19.

30-year-old Ronida Hysa was found guilty by the court on the charge of "theft by abuse of office". She was sentenced to 5 years in prison, a sentence that was reduced to 3 years and 4 months due to the shortened trial.

The prosecution requested a sentence of 6 years for the nurse Hysa, while the accused requested a change in the qualification of the charge.

She pleaded guilty to "embezzlement derived from the crime" and that if sentenced to prison, the sentence should be converted into probation.

Although she was sentenced to prison, nurse Hysa will not go to the cell, as from February 9 the investigation against her and then the trial has continued in the measure of "home arrest".

Ronida Hysa was handcuffed on January 25 this year, after denouncing the son of a patient who died at the infectious disease hospital, who allegedly stole his wallet and emptied his father's bank account. The investigation of the case revealed that the nurse had used the patient's card, withdrawing almost 60 thousand ALL in several different ATMs.

A few weeks ago, the Tirana Prosecutor's Office completed the investigation for Tire Alldervishi and 4 other nurses of the COVID2 hospital, suspected of setting up an extortion scheme for the relatives of patients infected with the coronavirus.
