Two senior Serbian Progressive Party officials have filed charges against President Aleksandar Vucic, and Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin following media reports of their alleged links to the Belivuk crime clan.

A day earlier, Vucic said he and the interior minister would file criminal charges against themselves on charges of collaborating with an organized crime network, Euronews Albania reports.

According to the media, the head of the criminal group, Veljko Belivuk, and his lieutenant, Marko Miljkovic, during the interrogation by the prosecutors, stated that they had met personally with Vucic and other officials of the ruling party, who asked them to stop some protests and to take control of football hooligan groups.

The charges against the president were filed by Milos Vucevic, the mayor of Novi Sad, and the deputy chairman of the progressive party's top body, Milos Vucevic.

Vucevic called on prosecutors to rely on the facts and give the public an answer. The prosecution charges the Belivuk group with the most serious crimes, such as murder and drug trafficking.

This is the second time Vucevic has filed charges against Vucic. He filed charges against Aleksandar and Andrej Vucic in the marijuana farm case in December last year following allegations of involvement by cabinet ministers with the president's knowledge. The prosecution concluded that the Vucic brothers had nothing to do with the case.
