Djukanovic says the Serbian Orthodox Church is an instrument of Russian interests in the Balkans and the nationalism

The Serbian Orthodox Church has consistently been an instrument of Serbo-Greater nationalism and Russian imperial interests in the Balkans.

This is what the President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, said in an interview for the Croatian media Jutarnji List.

"It is very clear that the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) was not only improperly involved in the elections, but was also the most active actor in politics. The Serbian Orthodox Church has consistently been an instrument of Serbo-Greater nationalism and Russian imperial interests in the Balkans. This time, the SOC did it openly. "After the elections, one of the spokespersons of the Serbian Orthodox Church said that the Church would withdraw from political life, which confirmed all this," Djukanovic said.

He said that in the last year, almost every Serbian official has interfered in the political life of Montenegro.

"There is almost no Serbian official who has not directly and brutally interfered in the political life of Montenegro over the past year," he said.

In this interview, Djukanovic also recalled the Russian intervention, which according to him was made to prevent Montenegro's membership in NATO.

"The Balkans have always been at the forefront of various world interests. "A few years ago, we were under attack from Russian interests who wanted to prevent Montenegro from joining NATO."

The new composition of the Assembly was constituted in Montenegro on Wednesday, in which the three coalitions will have a majority, "For the future of Montenegro", "Peace is our nation" and "Black over white", led by Zdravko Krivokapic, Aleksa Becic and Dritan Abazovic.

Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic did not attended the hearing.
