Today, the President of the Republic of Albania, Ilir Meta, held a working meeting with the Ambassadors of the 4 countries of the Visegrád Group, accredited in Tirana.

President Meta and the Ambassadors of the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia praised the political relations and friendly bilateral cooperation, as well as exchanged views on further strengthening cooperation between the V4-Western Balkans regions.

During the meeting was shared information on the situation of COVID-19 pandemics in each country. The President of the Republic and the Ambassadors stressed the need for a gradual and careful opening of borders, as well as the easing of austerity measures that would give breadth and impetus to the economy in general, but also the continuation of the positive trend of recent years of tourist flow from these countries to Albania.

President Meta thanked for the assistance that these countries have promised and given to our country to cope with the situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Head of State also praised the support and determination of the countries of Visegrád in terms of the European perspective of Albania and our region.

Expressing gratitude for the March 26 decision of the European Council on the opening of negotiations for Albania and Northern Macedonia, as well as the reconfirmation of the European perspective for our countries from the last Zagreb Summit, President Meta stressed that Albania should remain focused on timely fulfillment of all the conditions set by the Council for our country for the First Intergovernmental Conference on the opening of EU membership negotiations.

President Meta also briefed the Ambassadors on the latest political developments in the country, expressing concern that provocations and the aggravation of the political climate do not serve to advance the country's European perspective.
