Albin Kurti says Kosovo is ready to resume dialogue with Serbia

Kosovo's acting prime minister, Albin Kurti, has said he is ready to resume dialogue with Serbia, mediated by Brussels. While visiting local producers in Suhareka, Kurti said on Thursday that he is in constant contact with the European Union's special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak and that he is preparing to start the dialogue.

"We want this dialogue to be principled and well-prepared, well-organized. We are ready, we have experience, we will protect the interests of our state and we will represent the Republic of Kosovo as the Constitution says, as our laws say and as the people of Kosovo know us", declared Kurti. As for when this dialogue could resume, Kurti said it was in Brussels' hands.

"So it depends on Brussels, the calendar of the next dialogue and based on the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and the verdict from last year, Kosovo is represented by its prime minister," said Kurti, when asked who will lead the dialogue.

Currently, the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia has been suspended since the Kosovo authorities imposed a 100 percent tax on imports from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The government has already removed this measure, replacing it with reciprocity for Serbian goods, but not Bosnian ones. This measure has been opposed by the United States.
