Tirana Municipality cancels public space tax for March and April due to coronavirus

Tirana Municipality will not charge the public space tax for March and April to about 10 thousand businesses operating in the Albanian capital. In a TV interview the Mayor Erion Veliaj gave the good news to all those businesses operating in the capital that public space tax will not be levied, while to ease as much as they can, any other liabilities will be delayed until June.

“Many citizens have asked me about the tax issue. For the 10,000 businesses in Tirana that use public space we will pardon the public space tax for the whole of March and precede April. So for March and April, there are 0 taxes for businesses that use public space in Tirana. It will be postponed to June for any other obligations. So no one should have the anxiety that there will be interest or penalties. By pushing for June, we give everyone room to do the same in reducing the months that there was no work, ”Veliaj says.

The mayor of Tirana also explained the issue of soft loans, noting that the deadline for applications will be extended and no one will be deprived.

“For the over 1,000 applicants we have for soft loan housing, we have postponed the application until May. Still there is no hurry for a young family looking to address their housing, there will be time until May to take advantage of the City Hall scheme. So there is no reason for them to be anxious or impatient to catch working hours, which we have in fact only dedicated to emergencies, from 8am to 1pm, ”Veliaj declared.
