One in five Albanians lives below the poverty line
 
 The National Institute of Statistics of Albania (NISA) measured poverty in the country by surveying 7,582 households. According to a recent NISA study, 23 percent of the country's population, or 671,000 Albanians, live below the poverty line.

The poverty indicator measures household income, the number of household members, and the distribution of income among population groups. If a person lives on less than 16 thousand ALL or 120 EUR per month, he is considered poor in Albania.

But according to INSTAT, the poor have:

- Unable to afford a meal with meat or chicken once every two days

- Unable to have a TV

- Unable to have a washing machine

- The financial inability to afford a cell phone

- The inability to cope with an unforeseen financial expense of over 10,000 ALL

- Delay in payment of loan or rent of the apartment

- Unable to keep the house warm in the Winter.
