David Lega: if the anti-defamation packages passes, Albania risks opening negotiations

European Parliament rapporteur for Albania from by the EPP parliamentary group, David Lega, delivered today another warning message to Albania, one day after the criticism of the Albanian government's anti-defamation package against the media, saying it could jeopardize the chairmanship of Albania to OSCE and the integration of our country.

In a message on Twitter, the senior EP official warns that if the administration of Prime Minister Edi Rama passes the media legislation in Parliament today, then Albania is seriously at risk of opening negotiations.

David Lega: if the anti-defamation packages passes, Albania risks opening negotiations

"If the Rama administration approves the media legislation in plenary in its current form it will seriously endanger the chances for opening of EU membership negotiations. They need to comply with the recommendations issued by the European Commission and the Council of Europe.
The @EPPGroup in the European Parliament strongly believes in opening EU membership negotiations with Albania. However, Albania needs to comply with the Copenhagen criteria, that are the basic and minimum standard for a candidate country.
