Turkish Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu: Cyprus is Turkey's 'national cause'

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu presented on Monday to the Parliament's Budget Committee the draft budget for the ministry and its subordinate institutions.

"For Cyprus, which for us is a 'national cause', we will no longer sit at the table simply to talk," the Turkish diplomat said, adding:

"Turkey has the longest coastline in the Eastern Mediterranean and it has legitimate rights and interests in maritime areas west and north of the island of Cyprus. Our country has taken and continues to take steps to protect these [rights and interests]. We will continue to defend both our rights on our continental platform and the rights of the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, for which we are guarantors. "

The new status quo that Turkey has created in Syria has been accepted by both the United States and Russia, - Cavuscu said, adding: "As a result of our persistent efforts on the ground and on the table, despite the nonsensical accusations and threats with sanctions, the US and Russia have acknowledged our legitimate security concerns, the legitimacy of our operation and the new status quo we have created with the steps taken on the ground. "

Referring to the news that the so-called commander of the separatist terrorist organization PYD / PKK, Ferhat Abdi Shahin will travel to the United States of America and Germany, Minister Çavushollu made the assessment: "To these countries we have to communicate our request for the arrest in flagrance and extradition to our country of the person concerned. We are following these demands with persistence."

Minister Çavushollu said that Turkey will continue to develop its relations with Iran on the basis of good neighborly relations, while underlining that they have strengthened co-operation between the two countries in many areas, including trade, tourism, transport and energy.
