Rama at the International Economic Forum: we feel like a boat at sea without a compass

The Albanian premier spoke during the Geneva International Economic Forum addressing various issues.

Yesterday the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama was in Geneva, Switzerland, where he took part in the World Economic Forum.

The Premier wanted to emphasize that everyone should understand the importance of the integration process.

"The European Union needs the Western Balkans as much as we need the EU. Those who do not understand this do not understand what is at stake and what the current and future challenges are." - Rama said initially.

Rama declared later  that Albania will do its best to improve cooperation in the region despite currently being in the Balkans as a boat in the middle of the sea to which the compass has been forcibly taken away.

The statements of Rama:

"Right now we really feel like a boat in the middle of the sea where the compass was taken away by force. It is very important for us to know things accurately. It is clear to everyone that, while in the last 5-6 years the process of European integration has been characterized by increasingly unforeseen events, of what happened in October has made it completely unpredictable.

While we are talking, we do not have the possibility to know what we must do to achieve this, since it is clear that the decisions of the European council depend more on the will of the member countries than on what we have and have not done.

We did not start this process because someone in Berlin, Paris or Brussels forced us, but because it was exactly what our peoples, our countries and our children need, and we will continue on this path for them. However, we know that the region also has a lot of potentials to exploit and we will do our best by increasing regional cooperation to avoid the negative consequences derived from this 'blind' verdict.

Surely for Aleksandar (Vucic, ed) it is simpler, because as he said his country is not so euro-optimistic; on the other hand, I don't think we should cry about it because it is more difficult for us, given that we are doing it for our children and future generations, not for this generation of European leaders "- said Edi Rama during the forum international economy.
