Greece-China, 16 cooperation agreements signed

In Athens, where he is on a two-day official visit, Xi Jinping met with President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Within the framework of President Xi's contacts between the two countries, 16 cooperation agreements were signed in different fields, some of which are: the agreement to eliminate the (bureaucratic) obstacles encountered during the implementation of the Chinese firm Cosco Group's investment plan in the port of Pireus; agreement on extradition of prosecuted persons; increased cooperation between public radio and television (exchange programs) and between some higher education institutions; scheduling of 'charter' flights between the two countries and agreement on the opening of the Bank of China branch in Athens.

After contacts in Athens, Chinese President Xi Jinping, accompanied by Prime Minister Michotakis, visited the facilities of the Cosco firm in the port of Piraeus.

The Chinese shipping company Cosco Group had acquired a majority stake (66%) in the port of Piraeus, the country's largest trading port, as part of a privatization process in Greece.

It was reported that Cosco had planned to make some changes to the port of Piraeus, but its demands had stalled in the barriers of the Greek bureaucracy.
