Bulgaria approves the purchase of eight American F-16 fighter jets

 The Bulgarian Parliament ratified today the acquisition of eight F-16 American Lockheed Martin fighter jets, approving an extraordinary public deficit growth for this acquisition.

This purchase is the most expensive realized by Sofia relating to military issues since the end of the communism.

The jets, to be delivered by 2024, will cost up to $ 1.256 billion.

NATO member since 2004, Bulgaria has been demanding for many years to replace the obsolete fleet of MiG-29 fighter jets of Soviet production.
