The most powerful politician of Romania, Liviu Dragnea ends up in jail

 

The most powerful politician in Romania, Liviu Dragnea, was jailed for three and a half years by the Supreme Court of the country. The decision to imprison him came soon after Dragnea's party suffered losses in the EU election. Romania's Supreme Court upheld the ruling of a local court, rejecting Dragne's appeal.

The 56-year-old Dragnea had appealed for the 2018 verdict of influencing a job contest where he had favored two women who were members of his party. To Dragnea was denied the right to be prime minister on charges of manipulating the election. Meanwhile, he is considered to be the most powerful man in Romania and the man who leads with the Prime Minister Viorica Dancila. He is expected to be put in jail 24 hours after today's ruling. Meanwhile, his party has also suffered losses in the race for the European Parliament. After Gruevski in northern Macedonia, Dragnea is the second leader in the Balkan countries convicted by a local court.
