Who will be the Prosecutor General of Albania?

In Albania, the Supreme Prosecution Council opened today the race for the election of the General Prosecutor of Albania, who will have to replace the current Prosecutor Arta Marku elected in December 2017 with a temporary mandate.

The Council opened the race after approving the regulation on the selection criteria of the candidates, including the re-evaluation process. The time available for applicants is 30 days. Subsequently, the Council will within 45 days make the assessment on the conditions by the candidates and will hold hearings with them.

According to the Constitution, which aligns with Justice Reform in 2016, the General Prosecutor is elected by 60% of the votes. The High Council of the Prosecutor's Office sends to Parliament three candidacies sorted according to the evaluation they have received. If Parliament fails to elect one of the three candidates, within 30 days of receiving the proposals, then is automatically assigned the one listed first.
