OSCE about the Protest: Violence is not the response of Albania's Problems
Protest in Tirana in front of the Parliament, February 26, 2019

The OSCE reacted again after the opposition protest that took place this afternoon for about 3 hours in a row in front of the Albanian Parliament.

The OSCE condemns the political prompting of violence and calls for restraint. Citing the burning of the tires, the use of fireworks and the breakdown of police cords, the OSCE says these are not democratic acts. Also the OSCE has a message for the police.

"Violence is not the answer to the problems of Albania. We still condemn the political impetus of violence and call for restraint and responsibility. Protesting, is a democratic act, but burning tires, using fireworks, and breaking the police cords to attack a public institution, and especially the heart of democracy, are not. We also encourage the police to react proportionally. We are monitoring the situation with concern. We congratulate the media on the great service they are doing to democracy through direct reporting," OSCE says.
