100 Albanian passports stolen in Greece in the car of the Albanian consul

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said that 100 Albanian passports were robbed in Greece on the car of the Albanian Consul in Ioannina, on 13 February this year.

According to the Albanian Ministry, passports were produced by Aleat Company in Albania and after a deadlock by the Greek authorities in Kakavijë, are being shipped by the Albanian consul in Ioannina to the Albanian Embassy in Athens.

The Albanian Foreign Ministry acknowledged the violations of the passport transportation, not in accordance with the regular shipping practices of diplomatic packages and ordered investigative and administrative proceedings.

According to the Albanian authorities, the Albanian Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with Aleat, took measures of the invalidation of these passports, as well as the commitment to produce and replace the stolen passports.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said that has instructed all the necessary instances that citizens affected by this damage must re-apply without spending, and the issuing of the new passports should be made urgently.

We remind that some months ago a handful of books for children of Albanian emigrants in Greece were blocked at the border by the Greek side, claiming these books had nationalistic content. The books were not shipped by diplomatic mail, and Albanian drivers of the Albanian Foreign Ministry had been detained by Greek police. The books did not reach the children of Albanian immigrants in Greece.
