Gallup poll, Albanians prefer to donate money and not time to charity

In 2017 Gallup asked adults in 146 countries if they had donated money to a charity, volunteer time for an organization, or helped a foreigner in need within the last month. On average, more than four in 10 people around the world said they had helped a foreigner or a foreign person when in need (43%), while much less said they donated money (27%) or volunteered their time (18%). According to Gallup, Albanians are part of the peoples with the lowest percentage of donating time to charity, ie by 7%, this tendency goes almost for the whole region.

In 2017, according to the report, nearly 1.4 billion had donated money to a charity, almost 1 billion volunteered their time in an organization, and 2.2 billion had helped a foreigner in need last month.
Gallup compiles the "positive" responses to these three questions to reach a score of the Civil Engagement Index for each country. According to this index, Albania ranks 72 out of 146 states, is penalized with the lowest time of charity engagement.

The index score for the world in 2017 is 30 out of a possible 100; Albania has a score of 26 points below the world average and similar to that in the region.
