Macedonia ready for trade exchange with Kosovo after 100% tax on Serbia

Those who could benefit mostly by the economic war between Pristina and Belgrade are Macedonian merchants. Following the decision of the Kosovar Government to increase 100% the tax on products imported from Serbia and Bosnia, a new situation is created with Serbian goods on the Kosovar market and its real needs.

All this, as claimed for Radio Free Europe, Drilon Iseni, Director of the Economic Chamber of North-West Macedonia, there is a good chance for Macedonian merchants to benefit. This case should be used to help Kosovo market with products that exist in Macedonia as well as benefited from being given a new stimulus to trade between the two countries, Iseni said.

However, the Macedonian Ministry of Economy considers that such benefits would be short-lived, while its head, Kreshnik Bekteshi said to the same media that Skopje will not interfere in this matter but will leave the parties to resolve the problem themselves. Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said on Thursday that 100 percent tax on Serbian goods should not be lifted until Serbia recognizes Kosovo's independence. Kosovo's cabinet told the Voice of America that since the entry into force of tax on products from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 20 trucks of goods have been reversed due to lack of information on tax increases and the way in which these countries have referred to the state of Kosovo.
