Macedonia's Albanian Minister of Justice resigned for moral reasons

Albanian Justice Minister in the Macedonian government, Bilen Saliji, has resigned, and the decision has been argued for moral reasons.

Through a statement to the media, Saliji says the cause is Prosecution's decision to recapture the accusation in the case of an accident that took the life of an 4-year-old Albanian, Almir Aliu.

"One of the main reasons for my involvement in politics and especially as Justice Minister was my belief that justice was the main pillar of a state and most importantly, equal justice for all citizens," Saliji said.

He says the act of resignation is undertaken not by failure or pressure, but as an even greater awareness-raising act in terms of reforms in the justice system.

The 4-year-old Almir Aliu was crashed with car by the Macedonian Boban Ilic in Kumanovo after a conflict with the kid's family members. The Macedonian Prosecution changed the indictment of intentional murder and classified the offense as accidental by accusing him of "an accident resulting in death," a more mitigated allegation from the former.
