Albanian breeders starting today can export to the Serbian market (sheep, goats and their meat).

This is the first step towards the main objective of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to open livestock exports to the European Union.

In a press release, the Ministry of Agriculture announces that on March 6, 2018, a meeting was held between the Delegation of the Republic of Serbia headed by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Branislav Nedimović and the Albanian delegation headed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Niko Peleshi.

At this meeting it was agreed that respecting the requirements and standards of health of both countries should be prepared all legal procedures that will enable trade exchanges between our countries to include exports from the Republic of Albania to the Republic of Serbia of live animals, sheep and goats, their fresh meat.

Following the agreement between the two delegations, following the numerous negotiations with the Serbian side, is agreed about the model of the health certificate for export from the Republic of Albania to the Republic of Serbia of goat meat and goat as well as the health certificate for export of animals sheep and goat live.

"We have been informed by the Serbian authorities that currently health certificates for export from the Republic of Albania live cattle, sheep and goats and their flesh are in effect and are conveyed at the border inspection posts of Serbia. In this way it is considered that their export is open and the loads can be started at any time," the Ministry of Agriculture announces.

This is an extraordinary news for Albanian stockbreeders who, to date, all their production was dedicated only to the domestic market. From today, another market of about 7 million people, such as Serbia, is added to this market.

The potential of livestock in Albania

The cattle in our country is grown mostly in a free state in pastures, which makes this product even more attractive to the Serbian market, which today they are supplied mainly from the countries that the majority of breeding is made with the intensive growth.

In Albania, about 3,000,000 of them are grown, each year about 2,400,000 lambs and kids are born for slaughter. These slaughter lambs have on average 10-15 kilograms of meat per head, an economic value of ALL 25.2 billion or around EUR 191 million. It is the first time since 1990 that live animals  twill be be exported to a foreign country.
