The German botanist Fridrih Markgraf made several scientific trips to Albania, where he studied and collected the plants of Albania.

In 1924-1928, on behalf of the Berlin Botanical Garden, the German botanist, Friedrich Markgraf (1897-1987), conducted several scientific trips in Albania, where he studied and collected the plants of the country. The results of his scientific work came to the dissertation An den Grenzen des Mittelmeergebietes: Pflanzengeographie von Mittelalbanien (At the borders of the Mediterranean: the geography of the plants of central Albania), Berlin 1927, which emerged in an extended version entitled "Pflanzengeographie von Albanien" (Plant Geography of Albania), Stuttgart 1932.

In the volume "Pflanzen aus Albanien", 1928 (Plants of Albania, 1928), Vienna 1931, also marked the Albanian names of the plants collected. In later years he worked as director of the Botanical Gardens of Munich. Of greater interest is his guide "In Albaniens Bergen" (In the Mountains of Albania), Stuttgart 1930, with many pictures, presented here:
