These rare and unseen before photos of the Albania under the rein of Prince Vid in 1913-1914 are published first by the famous scholar Robert Elsie, who is specialised in Albanian literature and folklore.
These photos are saved by Dutch gendarmerie who served in Albania by the time of Prince Vid. Robert Elsie brings these rare photos for us by showing how Albanians lived roughly one hundred years before.
These photos tell a lot about the life of the Albania of the time, maybe a little more that many today's historians about that time.Prince Vidi or Prince Vilhelm Vidi is born on March 26 1876 and died on April 18, 1945. reigned briefly as sovereign of the Principality of Albania as Vidi the first from March 7 to September 3 1914, when he was not welcomed by the majority muslim part of the Albanian population and he left to exile. Officially he ended his reign in Albania on 31 January 1925, when the country was declared an Albanian Republic.
