The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, between approximately 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The soldier, identified by the initials O.D., is suspected of having shot himself with his service weapon. Preliminary information has not ruled out the possibility that he may have attempted to take his own life.
The serviceman sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, near the heart. Following the incident, he was urgently transported to Berat Hospital, where he received initial medical treatment.
His condition is reported to be serious. Authorities are reportedly considering transferring him to Tirana for more specialized medical care.
According to preliminary information, the soldier had joined the Armed Forces relatively recently and was assigned to guard duty at the air base.
