Ahmed Hilmi Pasha: The First Prime Minister of a Palestinian Government

A little-known historical fact is that Ahmed Hilmi Pasha was the first prime minister of a Palestinian government. He was appointed on September 22, 1948, to lead the All-Palestine Government, established in the Gaza Strip with the support of the Arab League following the outbreak of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and the declaration of the State of Israel.

The government was established with the aim of providing political representation for the Palestinian people during one of the most difficult periods in their history. Its creation marked an early formal attempt to establish Palestinian self-government and a political administration representing Palestinian interests.

However, the All-Palestine Government had limited powers and never managed to exercise full control over the territory or establish an effective independent administration.

Despite its limitations, the government remains an important chapter in Palestinian political history. Ahmed Hilmi Pasha's appointment marked an early attempt to create a formal Palestinian governing structure at a time of major political upheaval in the region.
