Compensation for Albanian Farmers Through Self-Invoicing Exceeds €10 Million

 TIRANA, Albania – Compensation payments to Albanian farmers through the self-invoicing system have exceeded €10 million, according to the General Directorate of Taxes, which announced that the compensation process is continuing.

 Compensation payments to Albanian farmers through the self-billing system have exceeded €10 million, with thousands of applications approved through the e-Filing platform.

Between July 1 and August 31, 2026, farmers submitted 4,104 online applications for compensation. Of these, 2,906 applications have been approved, while a further 1,016 remain under review.

The total value of the 10% compensation has reached approximately €10 million, with the Tax Administration reminding farmers that they can apply online through the e-Filing system to receive the compensation they are entitled to.

VAT compensation applications began in July

Applications for the VAT compensation scheme opened on July 1, 2026. The process is carried out through the e-Filing platform and is available to all farmers registered with a NIPT tax identification number.

After logging into e-Filing, farmers must enter their bank account information, including their IBAN, under the “Bank Details” section.

How the self-invoicing compensation system works

Once the application is completed, the system displays the self-invoices issued for the period January–June 2026, which farmers must identify and confirm.

After the invoices have been identified, the system automatically calculates both the total value of the eligible self-invoices and the 10% compensation amount.

Before approving the application, the system also checks the applicable deadlines, invoices and bank account information.

Scheme aims to reduce farmers' production costs

The purpose of the scheme is to compensate farmers for 10% VAT paid on agricultural inputs, including fertilizers, seeds and seedlings.

The government-backed mechanism is intended to reduce production costs for farmers while also encouraging greater formalization of transactions within Albania's agricultural sector.

The continued use of an automated online application process is also designed to make the compensation procedure faster and more transparent, by linking invoices, tax records and bank account information within the e-Filing system.
