Suspect Arrested in Zvečan Over Attacks on KFOR and Kosovo Police in 2023

ZVEČAN, Kosovo – A man identified by the initials I.M. was arrested on Sunday in Zvečan on suspicion of involvement in attacks against KFOR personnel and Kosovo Police officers during the violent unrest in northern Kosovo in May 2023.

The arrest was carried out by investigators from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Serious Crimes, acting on the orders of the Special Prosecutor's Office, following a series of investigative actions.

Suspect Faces Multiple Criminal Allegations

According to the Kosovo Police, I.M. is suspected of several criminal offenses, including:

  • Assault against an official;
  • Participation in a crowd committing a criminal offense;
  • Hooliganism;
  • Association for activities against the constitutional order;
  • Endangering persons under international protection.

Authorities suspect that I.M. was linked to the events of May 2023, when violent clashes and attacks took place in northern Kosovo involving KFOR personnel and Kosovo Police officers.

Investigation Into May 2023 Violence Continues

The Special Prosecutor's Office and Kosovo Police said they will continue taking procedural measures in accordance with applicable legislation and international standards.
