Agron Shehaj Condemns Pressure on News24, Says Critical Media Are Being Targeted

 The leader of the Mundësia Party, Agron Shehaj, has reacted to the situation surrounding News24, describing the broadcaster as one of the media outlets continuing to report on the ongoing protests by citizens.

 Mundësia Party leader Agron Shehaj reacts to pressure against News24, criticizing authorities and praising the broadcaster for its continued coverage of ongoing citizen protests.

In his statement, Shehaj said that News24 has faced pressure from the authorities for years but has, in his view, refused to give in.

“For years, News24 has been under continuous attack from those in power. They have thrown everything they could at it, but they still have not managed to silence it,” Shehaj wrote.

Shehaj criticized what he described as a double standard toward the media, arguing that outlets supportive of the government are rewarded, while critical media and journalists face pressure.

“This is how regimes operate: those who serve those in power are rewarded, while those who criticize them have the entire state coming after them,” he said.

According to Shehaj, such a situation is unacceptable for a country seeking membership in the European Union, where media freedom and institutional independence remain key democratic standards.

Referring to the ongoing protests, the opposition lawmaker also highlighted News24's coverage, saying that for 71 consecutive days, the broadcaster has continued to report on what he called the “extraordinary resistance of citizens.”

Shehaj's comments come amid continuing political tensions in Albania, with opposition figures and critics of the government repeatedly raising concerns about pressure on independent and critical media.
