Piedmont Approves Resolution Recognizing Arbëreshë Language and Culture, Extending Official Recognition to 10,000 Arbëreshë

In what has been described as a historic milestone for the Arbëreshë community, the Regional Council of Piedmont has approved a resolution officially recognizing the Arbëreshë language and culture, extending institutional recognition to an estimated 10,000 Arbëreshë living in the northern Italian region.

The resolution marks the culmination of more than 20 years of advocacy and efforts by members of the Arbëreshë community, cultural organizations, and supporters working to preserve the community's linguistic and cultural heritage.

Among those thanked for their longstanding commitment are Vincenzo Cucci, Antonio Gioseffi, Demetrio Crucitti, and many other supporters who contributed to the campaign over the past two decades.

The Albanological Center (Qendra Albanologjike), which says it has led the initiative throughout the years, also welcomed the adoption of the resolution as an important achievement for the Arbëreshë community.

The proposal was presented by regional councilors Simone Tosto and Ferrante De Benedictis, whose resolution received approval from the Regional Council.

Supporters of the initiative hailed the decision as a significant step toward protecting the linguistic identity and cultural traditions of the Arbëreshë people in Piedmont, where thousands of descendants of Albanian migrants have lived for generations.

The announcement concluded with a call for continued engagement in preserving Albanian national and cultural heritage, urging people to "do something concrete for the nation."
