Granit Xhaka Leads Switzerland’s Historic World Cup Celebration After Quarterfinal Run

Switzerland’s national team returned home on Tuesday after a historic campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they reached the quarterfinals for the first time in a memorable tournament performance.

The players and coaching staff received a warm welcome in Zurich, where thousands of fans gathered to celebrate the team’s achievement and show their appreciation for the historic run.

During the reception ceremony, head coach Murat Yakin and several players addressed the supporters, while captain Granit Xhaka delivered an emotional message highlighting the team’s unity and fighting spirit.

“I hope we were able to make you happy,” Xhaka told the fans at the ceremony.

The Swiss captain said the team’s greatest strength was not individual stars, but the strong bond and collective mentality within the squad.

“Our connection is special. We don’t have big names, but we are one body and we have a special team spirit. It is difficult to understand what we have achieved. In the end, we can be satisfied with what we accomplished,” Xhaka said.

The midfielder also spoke about his plans after the World Cup, explaining that he intends to spend time with his family before returning to football.

“Now I will go on vacation and spend time with my family. Then we return to work. But with children there is never really a break. It is a different kind of work now,” Xhaka joked.

Switzerland’s World Cup campaign became one of the most successful in the country’s football history, with the team reaching the quarterfinals and winning the admiration of supporters through their performances throughout the tournament.
