Albania to Reopen Embassy in Ireland After Years of Closure

Albania is set to restore its diplomatic presence in Ireland after the Council of Ministers approved the reopening of the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Dublin, which had been closed for several years.

The decision was taken following a proposal from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and aims to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and consular relations between Albania and Ireland.

According to the government decision, the costs related to the opening and operation of the embassy will be covered by the 2026 state budget, through the program “Foreign Diplomatic Support” and funds allocated to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

The ministry has been tasked with implementing the decision, which will enter into force after its publication in the Official Gazette.

The reopening of the embassy comes as relations between the two countries continue to develop, particularly in areas related to citizens’ services, economic cooperation, and the growing Albanian community in Ireland.

The government decision states:

“Opening the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Dublin, Republic of Ireland.”

The expenses for establishing the embassy will be covered by the 2026 budget under the “Foreign Diplomatic Support” program and the current expenditure funds allocated to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

The decision was signed by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
