Zvërnec Protest Turns Criminal: Private Security Guards Arrested Over Alleged Abduction and Violence

Police in Vlora have arrested two private security guards employed by Major Security, identified as Artur Grami and Gazmend Vathi, on suspicion of violently assaulting and forcibly detaining a protester during a demonstration held in the Zvërnec area, near Portonova.

According to investigative sources, the two men allegedly acted in coordination with Gerald Biba, and are accused of physically assaulting a participant in the protest before forcibly holding him inside a security cabin until police intervention.

Charges: Illegal deprivation of liberty
The Vlora Police Department confirmed that the incident is linked to the protest held on May 30, 2026, in Zvërnec. All three individuals have been placed under the precautionary measure of “arrest in prison” on charges of “illegal deprivation of liberty.”
Authorities also confirmed that the investigation is being carried out in cooperation with the Vlora Prosecutor’s Office, with the aim of fully clarifying the circumstances of the incident and identifying any additional persons involved.
Unlicensed security activity under scrutiny
Preliminary verification findings suggest that Artur Grami and Gazmend Vathi are not registered or licensed under any authorized private security company. This raises further concerns regarding the legality of their activity and the circumstances under which they were operating in the field.

The case files have been formally forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office in Vlora for further legal action.

Previous arrest of Gerald Biba

It is also recalled that Gerald Biba, former “Mr. Albania 2012,” was previously arrested by Vlora Police on charges of “light intentional injury” and “illegal deprivation of liberty.” He is suspected of being the main actor in the violence against a citizen identified by initials E.S., during the same protest in Zvërnec on May 30, 2026.
Biba is considered the de facto manager of Major Security, a company officially registered under the name of his mother-in-law, Shpresa Myzyri, although he has previously held an administrative role within the company.

Ongoing investigation

The investigation remains ongoing, with prosecutors and police continuing efforts to establish the full chain of responsibility and determine whether additional individuals or organizational structures were involved in the events surrounding the protest.
Authorities have not ruled out further arrests as the case develops.
