A tragic road accident has claimed the life of a 3-year-old child in the village of Kamenicë, on the Korçë–Ersekë road, according to Albanian State Police.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday when a Nissan vehicle driven by a 76-year-old man, identified by police as Sh. V., allegedly struck two pedestrians—a 44-year-old woman, identified as Sh. M., and her young son.
Emergency services rushed both victims to the Regional Hospital of Korçë. Initially, the child was reported to be in critical condition and fighting for his life. Despite medical efforts, the 3-year-old later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The child's mother sustained injuries and remains under medical care. Authorities stated that she is out of danger and her condition is considered stable.
Following the accident, officers from the Road Traffic Sector escorted the driver to the local police station for procedural actions as part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators and forensic specialists continue to examine the scene and gather evidence to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
The accident has shocked the local community, adding to concerns over pedestrian safety on regional roads, particularly in rural areas where vehicle and pedestrian traffic often intersect.
