Rolando Maran has officially been appointed as the new head coach of the Albania national football team, taking over the Red and Blacks after spending nearly a year without managing a club.
The appointment was confirmed by the Albanian Football Association, which has entrusted the experienced Italian tactician with leading the national team into its upcoming international campaigns.
The federation is reportedly aiming to bring greater tactical stability and experience to the Albanian bench as the team prepares for future competitive fixtures.
Experienced Career in Italian Football
Born on July 14, 1963, in Italy, Maran is regarded as one of the more experienced coaches in Italian football, having managed extensively in both Serie A and Serie B.
Before becoming a coach, Maran enjoyed a professional playing career as a defender, spending a significant part of his career with Chievo Verona.
Following his retirement from professional football in 1997, Maran immediately transitioned into coaching, beginning within Chievo’s youth system before moving on to several clubs in Italy’s second division.
Over the years, he managed teams including Brescia Calcio, AS Cittadella, SSC Bari, US Triestina Calcio and LR Vicenza.
Breakthrough Success With Catania
Maran became widely recognized during his time with Calcio Catania in Serie A.
In his first season in charge, he guided the Sicilian club to a historic eighth-place finish, one of the most successful campaigns in the club’s history.
The achievement significantly raised his profile within Italian football and established him as a coach known for tactical discipline and strong defensive organization.
Serie A Experience With Chievo and Cagliari
After his success with Catania, Maran went on to manage Chievo Verona for several seasons in Serie A, earning praise for keeping the club competitive despite limited resources.
He later coached Cagliari Calcio, where he initially produced impressive results and briefly placed the Sardinian side in contention for European qualification spots before performances declined.
Maran also had managerial spells with Genoa CFC and Pisa Sporting Club.
His most recent job came with Brescia Calcio, where he remained until the end of 2024.
A Tactical Coach Focused on Defensive Structure
Maran is widely known for his tactically organized style of football and his detailed work on defensive structure and team balance.
Observers now await to see how the Italian coach will adapt his philosophy to the Albanian national team and whether he can guide the Red and Blacks toward stronger performances in upcoming international competitions.
The appointment marks a new chapter for Albanian football as the federation seeks continuity, discipline and experience at the national team level.
