According to sources familiar with the matter, Berisha, previously held in Durrës, and Bami, who was being detained in Fushë-Krujë, were moved after confidential intelligence suggested that the detainees may have had access to mobile phones or other prohibited items inside their cells. Prison officials reportedly ordered the immediate transfer as part of stricter security measures aimed at preventing unauthorized communication and maintaining institutional control.

Bami’s latest transfer comes only weeks after prison authorities had approved his request to be moved from Prison 313 in Tirana to Fushë-Krujë, shortly after his extradition from Dubai at the end of February. Through his legal defense, Bami had argued that several detention facilities, including Peqin and Reç, housed individuals whom he considered a potential threat to his safety.

In the request submitted by his lawyer, concerns were also raised over Bami’s health condition and the psychological pressure he allegedly faced while being held near inmates accused of murder and organized crime offenses.

The transfer also comes amid intensified inspections across Albania’s prison system. In recent weeks, operational units from prison authorities have carried out multiple searches in correctional institutions nationwide, reportedly uncovering contraband including improvised weapons, mobile phones, and smart devices allegedly being kept illegally inside prison cells.

The latest developments have renewed public attention on prison security, inmate monitoring, and the broader challenge of preventing organized criminal influence from within correctional institutions.
