Former Prime Minister and leader of the VMRO-People’s Party, Ljubço Georgievski, has attracted significant attention after making strong and unusual political statements regarding the current situation in North Macedonia and the role of the Albanian political bloc in the country.
According to him, Albanian political parties in North Macedonia have developed into a serious state-building force that, in some respects, surpasses the influence and organizational capacity of certain domestic Macedonian political structures.
He expressed admiration for what he described as the political maturity of Albanians in the country, emphasizing that their role has become essential in shaping state stability and institutional balance.
“Today I am pleased to see a very serious evolution of the Albanian factor in Macedonia. I recognize in the Albanian political factor a state-building structure, even stronger than many structures within the Macedonian political spectrum,” Georgievski stated.
He further warned about external geopolitical influences in the region, specifically referencing the so-called “Serbian World” concept, a term often used in regional political discourse to describe perceived Serbian geopolitical influence in neighboring countries.
Georgievski argued that the Albanian political factor plays a crucial stabilizing role in preventing North Macedonia from falling under such influence.
“I am afraid that at this moment, if it were not for the state-building role of the Albanians, we would already have ended up 100 percent in the Serbian world. Therefore, I can freely say that today the Albanians are keeping Macedonia from joining the Serbian world,” he added.
His remarks have sparked wide discussion in political circles and public debate, particularly regarding the internal balance of ethnic politics in North Macedonia and the broader regional geopolitical tensions that continue to shape the Balkans.
